For Clients with Drug & Alcohol Addiction in Richmond, VA
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)
Drug and alcohol addiction treatment goes far beyond the traditional inpatient rehab model. Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) have become a popular resource for individuals struggling with substance use disorder. We are proud to offer IOP as an option at Sobright Recovery & Rehabilitation in Richmond, VA.
What is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) offer an intermediate level of addiction treatment care. While not as comprehensive as inpatient residential treatment or even PHP (partial hospitalization programs for addiction), IOP still allows guests to receive comprehensive care and support — with an additional layer of flexibility. IOP offers the same types of care as PHP and rehab, including
Addiction Treatment Therapy
In IOP, guests work one-on-one with a counselor or therapist to learn more about the deeper reasons for their drug and alcohol abuse — and learn how to heal them. Group therapy provides additional insight and a new recovery network.
Substance Abuse Education
Learning relapse prevention skills, recovery habits, and an understanding of the disease model of addiction is essential for creating long-term recovery.
Clinical Care
Joining an IOP (intensive outpatient program for addiction) gives guests access to the same level of professional care that they would receive in an inpatient or PHP. In many cases, these professionals work across several levels of care.
A Community of Recovery
Meet and build relationships with other people striving to build a better life, and continue those relationships even after you leave treatment.
Relapse Prevention Therapy
Learn how to smash triggers and stop cravings before they start with relapse prevention education. Guests learn vital skills for long-term recovery.
And More
All in a Personalized Treatment Plan
In short, IOP offers the same type of treatment as clients receive in higher levels of care — just on a more limited schedule.

Addiction IOP at SoBright in Richmond, VA
The limited schedule of IOP is perhaps its defining feature. Typically, IOP takes place a few hours a day, a few days a week — as opposed to the more comprehensive schedule of PHP. This means that guests can tend to family responsibilities, or even work or attend school outside of sessions. That added flexibility, of course, means that IOP guests must often be more stable in their recovery than those who opt for PHP or rehab.
Is IOP Right for You or a Loved One?
Typical IOP clients may include:
Someone who has finished Residential Treatment and is stepping down in levels of care
Someone who has relapsed after a period of sobriety
People who do not need 24/7 supervision to stay abstinent
Someone who is pursuing treatment for their substance abuse for the first time
People who have a stable home life that can support them outside of treatment hours
Someone who does not believe they have hit “rock bottom,” but still wants help
People who cannot afford full-time residential treatment — or whose insurance won’t pay for it
Individuals who do not suffer from any serious medical or mental issues
All these types of people and more can be found in the Sobright Recovery & Rehabilitation IOP, making for a diverse environment of support and accountability that welcomes people from all walks of life.
